About The Position

The Registered Nurse in the Mother/Baby specialty practices independently in the same or a similar clinical setting and demonstrates awareness of relevant aspects of a situation. The nurse provides routine and complex care, works toward long-range goals or plans, continues developing the ability to manage clinical contingencies, and makes appropriate assignments and delegates care to help manage clinical situations.

The role provides nursing care consistent with the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, using the nursing process to assess, diagnose, plan, intervene, and evaluate care for assigned patients. The nurse addresses increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families in accordance with their level of practice; administers medications and treatments using appropriate protocols; monitors treatment effectiveness and side effects; documents patient histories, symptoms, medications, and care; and assesses learning needs to provide education and identify issues and resources.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing preferred.
• One year of experience in the related nursing specialty preferred.
• BLS required; AHA or Red Cross certification accepted at hire, with no grace period.
• RN license in the state of employment or a compact RN license.
• Current STABLE certification required through an approved Participant, Lead Instructor, or Support Instructor course.
• Current NRP certification required.
• All newly hired experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire.
• New hires must complete onboarding with a designated trained staff member and successfully complete organizational entry competency validation and Perinatal Services-specific competency validation.
• Completion of all annual competency verification requirements.
• Required certifications must be obtained within the applicable credential grace periods based on experience level.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.
• One year of experience in the related nursing specialty.
• Perinatal RN Residency or recent practice in a Perinatal Setting.
• Current ACLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Meet the expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
• Provide nursing care using the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients.
• Address patients’ and families’ psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs in accordance with the nurse’s level of practice.
• Administer medications and treatments according to appropriate protocols and monitor for side effects and effectiveness.
• Document patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided.
• Assess learning needs, educate patients, family members, and/or caregivers, and identify issues and resources.
• Make appropriate assignments and delegate to other care providers to help manage clinical situations.
