About The Position

Provides professional nursing care in the Emergency Department through assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation in accordance with facility or department policies and procedures. Directs and manages care for designated patients, communicates effectively, helps maintain a safe work environment, and maintains clinical and professional competency appropriate to the patient population. This is a full-time, onsite day-shift position at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Pocono Creek, scheduled for three 12-hour shifts per week (0900–2130), every third weekend, and every other holiday.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Knowledge and competence reflecting current nursing practice.
• Ability to organize and prioritize assignments in the delivery of patient care.
• Successful completion of additional orientation programs related to the specialty.
• Attainment and maintenance of unit-specific competencies.
• Basic computer skills.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification, required upon hire.
• Pennsylvania Registered Nurse license, required upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for designated patients.
• Recognize when collaboration or communication with physicians and interdisciplinary team members is needed, and take proactive action to resolve patient needs.
• Use relevant data, information, and knowledge to make decisions that optimize patient outcomes in accordance with ANA Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics.
• Support quality and safety through established policies and procedures and evidence-based practice; participate in evidence-based practice and research projects as applicable.
• Communicate effectively with patients, significant others, visitors, staff, and professional colleagues using appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication.
• Coordinate and provide patient and family education throughout treatment to support an effective transition of care.
• Contribute as a department team member to unit and hospital goals and objectives.
• Participate in all phases of performance improvement, including organizational and unit-based patient experience goals.
• Perform validated technical skills based on clinical specialty and unit practice.
• Use technology to optimize alternative modes of care delivery.
• Teach and mentor new colleagues and department interns; provide additional precepting as assigned.
• Delegate according to team members’ skills and expertise, patient acuity and specific needs, and team members’ availability.
• Provide input on performance appraisals of care delivery team members when requested.
