About The Position

The Neurovascular Unit (NVU) at Bronson Methodist Hospital is looking for compassionate Registered Nurses to join their team. The NVU is a 40-bed medical-surgical unit specializing in the care of patients with neurological diagnoses such as stroke, epilepsy, and post-operative orthopedic spinal surgeries. The unit also has five beds dedicated to neuro-monitoring for patients experiencing seizure-like events, with occasional opportunities to care for pediatric patients. This role offers the chance to develop specialized neurological assessment and patient care skills within a collaborative team environment focused on exceptional patient outcomes. Under general supervision, the registered nurse manages patient care delivery using the nursing process, coordinates care with other professionals, delegates tasks, provides direct patient care, and documents patient responses and needs.

Requirements

Associate's degree in Nursing required
Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing for the state of Michigan
BLS certification required by completion of core orientation
Ability to read, interpret, and analyze data from various computer systems and equipment in order to set an appropriate plan of action
Must be able to constantly communicate both verbally, in writing and electronically

Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred, must obtain within 8 years of hire
Critical care or ALS as well as other certifications may be required for some RNs, unit specific

Responsibilities

Manages the care delivery for patients throughout the length of stay to achieve quality outcomes and timely discharge.
Utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, diagnosing, implementation and evaluation.
Coordinates the care provided by other professionals.
Delegates selected acts, tasks or functions that fall within the scope of professional nursing practice and the abilities of patient care assistants and universal service assistants.
Provides selected aspects of physical care within the scope of professional nursing practice as appropriate given the patient's level of acuity and complexity of care required.
Documents and communicates during each tour of duty the patient's response to care provided, consumption of resources and anticipated needs.
Collects comprehensive data pertinent to the patients’ health or the situation.
Assesses the patient’s physical and developmental needs.
Analyzes assessment data to identify appropriate patient needs.
Documents nursing history and age appropriate physical/emotional needs/strengths for assigned patients.
Reviews vital signs to assess condition of patient and detect deviations from normal.
Analyzes the assessment data to determine patient problems or issues.
Uses the assessment data to identify patient problems.
Confirms problems with patient and family when appropriate.
Documents the expected outcomes and plan of care related to the problems through use of the clinical pathway and outcome teaching record.
Identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient.
Utilizes the patient/family input when defining outcomes.
Incorporates the patient values, ethical and cultural considerations.
Coordinates discharge planning for outcomes not achieved utilizing the continuum of care available.
Develops a plan that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes.

Considers data from other members of the healthcare team when developing the plan of care.
