About The Position

This is a general posting for RN opportunities on the Ortho Surgical Unit (OSU). The Ortho Surgical Unit (OSU) is a 24-bed medical-surgical unit specializing in the care of patients recovering from orthopedic procedures, including hip fracture repairs, total hip replacements, total knee replacements, and total shoulder replacements. In addition to orthopedic patients, the team cares for medical patients admitted from the Emergency Department and physician offices with conditions such as cellulitis, pneumonia, urinary tract infections (UTIs), and other acute medical diagnoses. The unit prides itself on a collaborative, team-based approach to patient care, where RNs partner closely with Patient Care Assistants (PCAs) to provide exceptional care and support positive patient outcomes. Under general supervision and in accordance with established policies and procedures, the registered nurse manages the care delivery for patients throughout their length of stay to achieve quality outcomes and timely discharge by utilizing the nursing process, coordinating care, delegating tasks, providing direct patient care, and documenting patient responses and needs.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in Nursing required
• Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing for the state of Michigan
• BLS certification required by completion of core orientation
• Ability to read, interpret, and analyze data from various computer systems and equipment in order to set an appropriate plan of action
• Must be able to constantly communicate both verbally, in writing and electronically
• Work which produces high levels of mental/visual fatigue, e.g., interactive and repetitive or small detailed work requiring alertness and concentration for sustained periods of time, the operation of and full attention to a personal computer or CRT between 40 and 70 percent of the time.
• Involves regularly lifting of bulky or moderately heavy weights (i.e., up to 50 pounds), and occasionally assisting with heavier tasks or expending the equivalent effort in pushing, pulling, or otherwise handling material, equipment, and other objects.
• Ability to project voice at volume that can easily be heard by individuals with little to no hearing impairment via audio-visual technology; speech in English is easy to understand
• Ability to grip and use computer keyboard and mouse

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred, must obtain within 8 years of hire
• Critical care or ALS as well as other certifications may be required for some RNs, unit specific
• The Fetal Monitoring Credential (FMC) is required within 6 months of completing the AWHONN intermediate fetal monitoring course; completion of the National Certification Corporation (NCC) Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM) board certification is alternatively preferred, though not required.
• Current driver's license in the state of Michigan and proof of insurance required for BAH

Responsibilities

• Manages the care delivery for patients in the organization throughout the length of stay to achieve quality outcomes and timely discharge by utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, diagnosing, implementation and evaluation.
• Coordinates the care provided by other professionals.

• Assigned and responsible for after-hour call on a rotational basis.
• Ability to perform scrub duties in multiple services; ie: neuro and ortho STII able to perform spinal fusions in bother services.
• Completing the Workday CBL –“Swing beds”. This is an annual CBL that describes the difference in a swing bed patient versus an in-patient or observation patient.
• Understand the documentation differences and the specific care required for each individual swing bed patient.
• Cover shifts at Bronson Lakeview Hospital and/or Bronson South Haven Hospital depending on patient acuity and staffing needs.
• Conducting admission screening, patient/family education, discharge planning, and medication dual acknowledgments via secure digital platforms.
• Completing diagnostic testing questionnaires and supporting patient safety initiatives.
• Mentoring and supporting nursing staff and facilitating patient progression toward discharge using electronic health record (EHR) tools such as checklists and clinical pathways.
• Analyzing assessment data to identify patient problems, confirming issues with patients/families as appropriate, and documenting individualized care plans in collaboration with bedside RNs.
• Systematically evaluating the quality and effectiveness of virtual nursing services, ensuring compliance with professional standards and organizational policies.
