About The Position

As a Registered Nurse for Maricopa County Correctional Health Services, you help fulfill the mission of providing medically necessary, evidence-based integrated health care to patients going through the judicial system. Nurses respond to medical needs and provide necessary continuity of care that may arise during a patient’s stay in the county jail system. The department provides medical, dental, mental health, psychiatric care, and substance abuse treatment to the incarcerated population. Its culture promotes collaboration, continuous training, and flexibility.

Requirements

Hold a valid, unrestricted Registered Nurse license issued by the Arizona State Board of Nursing, or a license issued by another state recognized by the Arizona Board of Nursing as a multi-compact license state.
Be able to work inside a jail and respond to emergencies.
Be able to get on the floor to perform CPR/chest compressions, push medical equipment, climb stairs, and lift patients on a gurney that may weigh up to 35 pounds.
Must pass a pre-employment background and/or fingerprint investigation as required by statute or policy, including drug and alcohol testing requirements for positions designated as safety-sensitive.

Experience as a Registered Nurse in a Medical/Surgical, ER, Urgent Care, or Psychiatric setting.

Responsibilities

Provide assessments and implement appropriate nursing interventions.
Monitor patient progress and evaluate outcomes.
Perform standard nursing procedures appropriate to the patient's needs.
Complete and process required documentation, including plans and discharge planning, comprehensively, objectively, and legibly.
Provide health-related education to patients as appropriate to their needs.
Administer medication and address other pharmacological needs.
Perform basic intravenous and phlebotomy skills.
Participate in orientation and training of new employees, contract staff, students, and others.
