About The Position

The Registered Nurse works on 2 East, a 25-bed adult medical–surgical and telemetry unit at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Milton. The unit cares for patients with a wide range of medical and post-surgical needs, including neurological, orthopedic, respiratory, renal, and cardiac diagnoses. The nurse provides safe, high-quality, patient-centered care as part of a collaborative team in a community hospital environment. Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager or designee, and within the scope of a Massachusetts Registered Nurse license, the nurse uses the Nursing Process to assess patients, interpret findings, make nursing judgments, plan and coordinate care, implement interventions, evaluate outcomes, update care plans, and document care. The role includes telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia recognition, care related to operative, procedural, and medical procedures, patient and representative education, and collaboration with other health care providers. The position is scheduled for 36 hours per week across three 12-hour day shifts, with rotation, including every other weekend and holiday rotation.

Requirements

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
Basic Life Support certification by the American Heart Association before hire.
Ability to maintain required position-specific and hospital-wide competencies for the patient population served.
Ability to follow standard precautions and applicable safety requirements, laws, regulations, and hospital policies.

Nice To Haves

Recent acute Medical/Surgical/Telemetry nursing experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Assess patients’ health status, analyze and interpret data, and make nursing judgments regarding care plans.
Implement and coordinate nursing interventions, evaluate their outcomes, revise or update plans of care, and document the nursing process clearly and concisely.
Consider patients’ cultural beliefs and practices and use interpreter services for patients with limited English proficiency.
Provide and coordinate health teaching for patients and/or their representatives.
Collaborate, cooperate, and communicate with other health care providers to support quality and continuity of care.
Provide care appropriate to the age groups regularly served and seek assistance when caring for other age groups as needed.
Maintain position-specific and hospital-wide competencies for the patient population served and adhere to standard precautions.
Assume the charge nurse role as necessary.
Participate in unit-based quality assurance studies and unit meetings; participate in nursing committees, in-services, and orientation programs as directed.
Attend or participate in in-house or external training programs to improve and augment skills and knowledge.
Assist with ordering and upkeep of supplies as assigned by the Nurse Manager.
Assess and manage care issues for patients undergoing operative, procedural, or medical procedures.
Provide care for patients requiring telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia recognition.
Provide care to medical–surgical patients with a range of diagnoses, including neurological, orthopedic, respiratory, renal, and cardiac conditions.
Perform duties in accordance with applicable safety laws and regulations and established department and hospital policies and procedures.
Perform similar or related duties as necessary on an emergency basis or as designated by the department manager or supervisor.
Follow standard precautions and infection-control requirements when duties may involve exposure to blood and body fluids.
