About The Position

The Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is an inpatient unit serving individuals from the ages of 18 and up. The objective of the PICU is to provide a safe and structured environment for patients needing a higher level of psychiatric nursing intervention. A multidisciplinary treatment team targets a broad range of psychiatric illnesses and behavioral challenges with various therapeutic programs and educational groups. Nursing teammates work closely as part of the multidisciplinary team to help patients meet their goals and transition back to their assigned patient care unit or back into the community. The primary focus of this position includes but is not limited to providing active programming and ensuring safety of our patients, which is driven by individual patients’ treatment plans. Registered Nurses work with an interdisciplinary team of Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Social Workers, Rehabilitation Staff and Health Care Technicians to plan, development and implement individualized treatment plans to assist patients in meeting their goals. The Registered Nurse is also responsible for medication administration, assessment, ensuring the safety of our patients, therapeutic engagement, and many more rewarding opportunities.

Requirements

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse.
  • One year of related work experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to independently plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans.
  • Ability to lead a team; skill in delegation and making assignments.
  • Ability to communicate information to patients, families, and staff in a concise and descriptive manner, verbally, in writing or by demonstration.
  • Ability to appropriately respond to emergency situations.
  • Experience in working with the psychiatric population.
