About The Position

The Rapid Response Nurse (RRT) is an experienced critical care or emergency department registered nurse who responds to Rapid Response Team events and supports early identification, assessment, and intervention for patients experiencing clinical deterioration outside the ICU. The nurse serves as a clinical expert and consultant to bedside staff, promotes timely escalation of care, and facilitates safe transitions to higher levels of care to improve patient outcomes and safety. The role includes responding to RRT activations and staff concerns, assessing and stabilizing patients, initiating evidence-based interventions within scope of practice, and coordinating transfers when indicated. The nurse also follows up with patients who remain on non-critical care units, rounds proactively on high-risk patients, and supports timely core measure interventions. In collaboration with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, and nursing leadership, the RRT nurse provides clinical support, coaching, education, and feedback. The position documents events and outcomes in the electronic medical record and participates in data collection, quality improvement, and patient safety initiatives.
