This role involves cooperating as a member of the patient/client care team to plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate the delivery of quality treatment. The nurse will assist with quality assurance activities, demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills, and utilize observation, interviews, and physical assessment to determine client health status. The position requires advanced knowledge and tools to obtain data, establish priority of needs, and develop goal-oriented health plans. Collaboration with significant others and the treatment team is essential, as is reassessing clients and intervening appropriately. The nurse may perform face-to-face assessments within one hour of restraint and/or seclusion, identify crisis situations, and collaborate with the Medical Director and/or Program Director to assess and identify treatment. Referrals for in-patient treatment and coordination with managed care/insurance companies may be necessary. The role integrates current nursing health care knowledge with competency in psycho-motor skills for decision-making and treatment. Treatment is implemented in an organized, humanistic manner, preventing complications. The nurse will also supervise and assess competency for waived testing or phlebotomy, and thoroughly document all pertinent findings from admission assessment to discharge planning. Weekly staff meetings are required, and continuing education and professional development are expected.
