About The Position

The New Graduate RN Residency Program at Banner Health is a full-time Registered Nurse position designed to help new graduates transition into professional nursing practice. The New Nurse Experience provides a collaborative learning environment, clinical mentorship from unit staff and educators, and opportunities to refine nursing skills, develop knowledge, and build professional relationships. Participants are expected to remain on their assigned unit for at least 12 months and live within a reasonable commuting distance of the facility. Most new nurses work three 12-hour shifts, including rotating weekends and holidays. The role is in the Surgical Progressive Care Department at Banner University Medical Center-Phoenix. The unit provides a cardiac foundation and cares for patients whose acuity supports the development of critical-thinking skills. The RN assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents patient care in accordance with organizational policies and professional nursing standards. The nurse is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by themselves or others under their direction, and uses specialized knowledge and judgment to provide care appropriate to patients’ physical and developmental needs. The residency includes clinical experiences with a preceptor, training at the Banner Simulation Center, competency and skills assessments, orientation to the Cerner electronic health record, hands-on patient-care skills lab experience, e-learning modules, and resources for professional and personal development. The position is full-time, paid, and benefit-eligible. Compensation includes a flat $3-per-hour weekend shift differential and an 18% night shift differential when applicable. Benefits begin on the first day of the month following the start date.
