About The Position

The New Nurse Experience is a full-time Registered Nurse position designed to help new graduates transition into competent professional nurses at Banner Health. The program provides a collaborative learning environment, clinical mentoring by unit staff and educators, and career pathways and development opportunities. New graduates are expected to remain on their assigned unit for at least 12 months and live within a reasonable commuting distance of their facility. The role is in the Outpatient Observation unit at Banner University Medical Center–Tucson. The unit provides coordinated, short-term treatment, assessment, and reassessment while determining whether patients need further inpatient care. Patients are generally discharged or admitted to a floor within 48 hours. Nurses admit, transfer, and discharge patients and participate in the PCU Academy. All 36 beds across the two Observation units have telemetry monitoring. The setting is fast-paced and collaborative, with nurses and physicians working together to meet patient needs. The RN assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents nursing care in accordance with organizational policies and professional nursing standards. The nurse is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by themself or by others under their direction, using specialized knowledge and judgment to provide care appropriate to patients’ physical and developmental needs. Program activities include precepted clinical experiences, training in the Banner Simulation Center, competency and skills assessment, orientation to the Cerner electronic medical record, hands-on patient-care skills lab experience, e-learning modules, and personal and professional development resources. Most new nurses work three 12-hour shifts, including weekend and holiday rotations. This is a full-time, paid, benefits-eligible position. Compensation includes a $3-per-hour weekend shift differential and an 18% night shift differential when applicable. Benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance if elected, PTO and sick-time accrual, 401(k), and other benefits. Benefits begin on the first day of the month following the start date.
