The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Outpatient Surgery Center provides comprehensive nursing care to patients undergoing outpatient surgical and procedural services. Responsibilities include preoperative assessment and preparation, intraoperative circulating nurse duties, post anesthesia recovery care, and discharge planning and education. The RN utilizes critical thinking, clinical judgment, and evidence-based practice to coordinate safe, efficient, and patient-centered care throughout the perioperative continuum. The RN collaborates with physicians, anesthesia providers, surgical staff, patients, and families to ensure optimal patient outcomes while maintaining compliance with organizational policies, professional standards, and regulatory requirements. The RN serves as a patient advocate, promotes a culture of safety and quality, and demonstrates accountability for ongoing professional development and excellence in patient care. The role involves performing preoperative assessments, developing plans of care, providing patient education, coordinating discharge planning, and documenting patient care. The RN also provides circulating, perioperative, and PACU nursing care while ensuring patient safety and quality outcomes. This includes monitoring patient status, responding to changes in condition, and managing emergencies using sound clinical judgment. Collaboration with the interdisciplinary team is key to delivering safe, patient-centered care. The RN is expected to demonstrate leadership through delegation, teamwork, mentoring, and professional development, while maintaining required licensure, certifications, competencies, and compliance with organizational policies and safety standards.
