About The Position

Fairview is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for our ICU - Medicine Department at our M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank location in Minneapolis, MN. As a Registered Nurse in our Medical ICU, we care for patients with many different diagnoses including: Covid, multi system organ failure, pulmonary fibrosis, pneumonia, influenza, sepsis, renal failure, GI bleed, pre/post bone marrow transplant, pre organ transplant (kidney/liver/lung), overdoses, and respiratory/cardiac arrest. Therapies we utilize include hypothermia, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), paralytics, and proning. The Medical ICU at UMMC East Bank is a 19 bed critical care unit. We have complex, high-acuity patients who require continuous hemodynamic monitoring, intense medication management, ongoing critical thinking, and excellent communication with team members and families. This is a faced-paced and highly technical medical environment.

Requirements

  • MN RN Licensure
  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through Health Care Providers
  • 1 year of ICU experience or 18 months recent medical/surgical experience in a hospital setting

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher.
  • Certification in related specialty is highly desired.
  • A minimum of one year current medical surgical RN experience in a Hospital setting is preferred.
  • One year adult critical care experience is preferred.
  • Certification by the American Association of Critical Care Nursing or in a related specialty is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assessing patient needs and identifying expected nursing outcomes
  • Developing an individualized nursing plan of care
  • Implementing interventions as needed during treatment based on the plan of care
  • Evaluating care and patient response to interventions and expected outcomes
  • Using communication strategies to achieve desirable outcomes
  • Coordinating care with members of the health care team and delegating responsibilities to others as appropriate
  • Demonstrating the ability to advance care by utilizing standards, guidelines, care pathways, and continuous improvement to enhance patient outcomes
  • Promoting a culture of evidence based practice (EBP) by participating in a multitude of available opportunities
  • Performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedures, professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act
