About The Position

Hartford Hospital is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse (RN) for its Medical-Neuro Intensive Care Unit (ICU). This 16-bed adult inpatient unit specializes in caring for critically ill medical and neuroscience patients. The unit utilizes advanced technologies and devices such as CRRT, intracranial pressure monitoring, brain tissue oxygenation monitoring, and hemodynamic monitoring. The patient population includes individuals with complex and acute medical/neuro issues like respiratory failure, gastrointestinal bleeding, liver/kidney injury or failure, sepsis, drug/alcohol withdrawal, stroke, head/spinal cord trauma, and brain hemorrhage. The role requires a family-centered approach due to the critical nature of the patients and close collaboration with Critical Care Pulmonologists, Neuro-intensivists, Physician Assistants, and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses. In critical care, nurses are highly skilled and trained to provide expertise at the bedside with compassion, working within a team-based mentality aligned with Hartford Healthcare's values of Safety, Excellence, Integrity, and Caring.

Requirements

  • Current Connecticut RN License.
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school (BSN Required).
  • BLS certification by the American Heart Association.
  • ACLS certification.
  • Proof of Arrhythmia Certification prior to date of hire.
  • Minimum one year Acute Care RN experience strongly preferred.
  • In exceptional circumstances, experienced ASN/ADN nurses currently in pursuit of a BSN or MSN may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert care to critically ill medical and neuroscience patients in a 16-bed adult inpatient unit.
  • Utilize advanced technologies and devices including CRRT, intracranial pressure monitoring, brain tissue oxygenation monitoring, and hemodynamic monitoring.
  • Care for patients with a wide range of complex, highly acute medical/neuro issues.
  • Implement a family-centered approach to care.
  • Collaborate closely with Critical Care Pulmonologists, Neuro-intensivists, Physician Assistants, and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses.
  • Work congruently within a team-based mentality to achieve the best patient outcomes.
