About The Position

Join Baylor Scott and White Medical Center - Grapevine as a Registered Nurse on the Neuro PCU unit. This is a fast-paced environment for high acuity patients, fostering an environment that supports learning, mentoring, and building every team member. The patient population includes stroke, post-op surgery (brain, neck, back), seizure, altered mental status, post thrombectomy, mild TBI, post-op craniotomy, degenerative neuro disorders, and alcohol withdrawal. The patient ratios are 1:3-5 across 32 beds. The department features an Active Unit Based Council, self-scheduling, a culture of teamwork and safety, and leadership that promotes growth and engagement. The shift is full-time nights, from 7pm to 7am.

Requirements

2 years of recent Neuro Tele (or PCU) acute care hospital experience
Graduated from an Accredited Program in nursing.
RN license.
BLS certification or obtain within 30 days of starting.

Nice To Haves

A deep understanding of nursing and patient care standards, as well as procedures.
Knowledge of nursing laws, rules, standards, and guidelines in your area.
Understanding of hospital procedures and rules.
Proficiency in medical terms, focusing on health, disease prevention, management, common meds, and their side effects.
Respect for medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights.
Exceptional communication skills, allowing for clear expression of thoughts both verbally and in writing.
Positive social skills to facilitate interactions with a diverse range of parties.
Excellent problem-solving capabilities, driving effective critical thinking.
Basic computer skills, encompassing areas such as Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.

Responsibilities

Oversee patient care using a professional practice model.
Conduct patient assessments, recognizing health issues.
Create and implement care plans, assessing patient responses and adjusting plans to reach desired outcomes.
Secure patient travel.
Understand patient needs in healthcare.
Help patients and prevent issues.
Follow the Texas Nursing Practice Act and delegate tasks based on condition and team competencies.
Build relationships, manage discomfort, and maintain professionalism in therapeutic connections with patients and families.
Educate patients, families, nurses, and community members, empowering them with knowledge for better healthcare choices.
Assess and document learning needs regularly.
Work with colleagues and the community to create a care plan.
Delegate tasks carefully and follow up promptly.
Use different strategies for problem-solving with patients, families, and staff.
Recognize limitations and prioritize safety, effectiveness, and efficiency in patient care planning and delivery.
