About The Position

The Behavioral Health Unit RN provides compassionate, culturally sensitive, holistic nursing care to patients in a clinical setting, supporting Mercyhealth’s nursing mission, practice values, and strategic plan. The inpatient Behavioral Health Unit serves patients experiencing acute mental illness episodes and those undergoing medical detox. The role is scheduled for three 12-hour day shifts per week, with an every-other-weekend rotation.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
ADN required upon hire; BSN preferred.
Licensed as an RN in the state of practice.
Approved CPR/BLS certification required within 90 days.
Other certifications may be required according to unit requirements, such as ACLS, PALS, PEARS, or NRP.
Specific years of applicable experience may be required to qualify, according to department guidelines.
A color-blind test may be required according to department guidelines.

Responsibilities

Utilize the nursing process and collaborate with interdisciplinary team members in caring for patients.
Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques, policies and procedures, standards of care, and state laws and practice acts.
Document according to standards of care.
Perform assessments, planning, intervention, and evaluation of care.
Develop, initiate, and execute individualized patient plans of care as prescribed by a physician and/or clinic policy, including patient and family instruction.
Participate in department or unit performance-improvement activities, which may include shared governance.
Use clinical expertise and provide guidance to other units and departments in support of the patient’s longitudinal plan of care.
Apply critical thinking to patient safety and experience, escalating concerns through the appropriate chain of command.
Participate in the professional nursing continuum process, unit practice activities and decisions, and peer review process.
