The unit is a 12-bed Medical/Surgical & Post-Op unit with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6. Patient population includes post-op spine, orthopedic, ENT, abdominal, thoracic, vascular, and urology cases, along with general medical patients. It is a close-knit, collaborative environment with strong nurse-physician teamwork. The department is growing with future expansion plans as surgical services continue to expand.

Requirements

  • Current VA or compact state license.
  • Associate’s degree in nursing required.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience in clinical area preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs plan of care interventions, including medication administration, specimen collection, and clinical treatments.
  • Documents patient care and monitors patient condition, communicating with care team, physician, patient, and family.
  • Assists patients with activities of daily living, including hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
  • Coordinates patient care across disciplines, including transfers, discharges, referrals, and support needs.
  • Provides patient and family education appropriate to age, culture, and circumstances.
  • Advocates for the physical and emotional well-being of patients.
  • Participates in performance improvement and continuing education.
