Registered Nurse-ICU-Day Shift
About The Position
The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing professional nursing care for SIH patients. This position is associated with the Intensive Care Unit and a day shift. The nurse assesses patients’ mental, physical, and spiritual needs; develops and delivers individualized care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary health care team; and uses clinical judgment and critical thinking to recognize, respond to, and report changes in patient condition. The role also includes patient and family support, education, advocacy, accurate documentation, and supervision or delegation to licensed practical nurses and/or unlicensed assistant personnel. The nurse may float to other SIH nursing units within their competency level.
Requirements
- Associate, diploma, bachelor’s, or master’s degree in Nursing.
- Current Illinois Registered Nurse license.
- Current CPR/BLS card.
- Current ACLS card within 6 months of hire.
Responsibilities
- Assess patients to determine mental, physical, and spiritual needs.
- Establish a compassionate environment that provides emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and families.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate an individual plan of care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary health care team.
- Provide health teaching and counseling to promote, attain, and maintain patients’ optimum health level.
- Use clinical judgment and critical thinking to recognize, act upon, and report changes in patient condition.
- Complete accurate and timely documentation in the patient medical record.
- Provide input into the development of policies and procedures that support patient safety and quality of care.
- Supervise and delegate responsibilities to licensed practical nurses and/or unlicensed assistant personnel.
- Advocate for patients by communicating and collaborating with other health service professionals.
- Complete required education, competencies, and licensure in a timely manner.
- Float to other SIH nursing units within competency level.
