About The Position

The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) supports the Nurse Manager (NM) with supervisory duties and accountability for the 24/7 operation of designated units, and provides coverage for other ANMs as needed. The ANM directs and supervises staff orientation, training, and development, and provides input into individual staff performance evaluations. In the roles of role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor, the ANM provides leadership to the team and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers to care and implement evidence-based programs and processes. The ANM engages in professional organizations to support leadership and career growth, applies ethical principles in decision-making, and fosters accountability at the personal, organizational, and staff levels. The role builds alliances across the care continuum through active listening, engagement, and emotional intelligence. The ANM also serves as a mentor, facilitates conflict resolution and team-building, oversees unit operations when the NM is absent, and manages scheduling and staffing coverage. The work schedule is a rotating shift, Monday through Friday. The position is not eligible for telework and is not virtual. Mechanical devices are available and required for heavy or difficult-to-lift patients. The role may involve exposure to infected patients and contaminated materials, use of protective clothing, stair climbing, and the ability to physically control or protect oneself from physically abusive patients.
