About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Intensive Care Unit provides critical care to patients during vulnerable periods and supports their families through updates, education, and compassionate communication. The role calls for decisiveness, preparation, understanding, and high-level critical thinking. The nurse prioritizes, coordinates, and delegates patient care; monitors vital signs and life-support measures; responds to changes in patient condition; and collaborates with the care team to ensure safe, continuous, and efficient care. This position has variable hours and is listed as PRN.

Requirements

Current nursing license to practice in Louisiana, as defined by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing.
Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
Current ACLS certification, or obtain it within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

Prioritize, coordinate, and delegate patient care.
Evaluate vital signs and monitor life-support measures, including advanced heart and respiratory technology.
Apply knowledge of complex patient conditions, including psychosocial needs.
Maintain and advocate for a safe environment.
Communicate promptly with patients, families, and appropriate care team members about significant events, changes in condition, questions, and concerns.
Prevent and treat wounds.
Monitor and carry out Joint Commission infection-control and environment-of-care requirements.
Ensure continuity of care, efficient throughput, consistent communication, and a positive patient experience.
Collaborate and consult with the nursing supervisor to identify and meet patient-care needs, or when assignments or tasks cannot be completed promptly, effectively, or safely.
Initiate patient and family education using appropriate resources and continuum-of-care services.
Assist team members without being asked.
