About The Position

The Registered Nurse is a professional nurse who is educated in the art and science of nursing, with the goal of assisting patients attain, maintain, and restore health when possible. Competency is determined by demonstrated possession of the knowledge, attitudes, and skills required for this position. The registered nurse provides patient care utilizing the Nursing Process within the MS Nurse Practice Act, ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses and ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, Accreditation Standards, the CDC Guidelines for Infection Control, and SRHS Departments of Nursing Plan for Provision of Care, Treatment, and Services. As such, this performance evaluation is based on these standards.

Requirements

  • Graduate from NLN School of Nursing
  • Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Mississippi.
  • All RNs are required to complete and maintain BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer.
  • Must have de-escalation training completed by the end of position orientation (90 days); must have appropriate level of de-escalation training.
  • Must be able to work schedules assigned with the understanding that changes may be instituted according to the needs of the hospital for off days, shifts or weekends.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of one (1) year of inpatient clinical experience, preferred.
  • Experience must be within the past five (5) years, or evidence of successful refresher program.
  • ACLS certification (for Cath Lab, Cardiac Rehab, Congestive Heart Failure, Cardiovascular Surgery, Intensive Care Units, PACU/Recovery)
  • PALS certification (for Emergency Department, Pediatrics, PACU/Recovery)
  • TNCC certification (for Emergency Department)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation) certification (for Labor & Delivery, Nursery)

Responsibilities

  • Provides patient care utilizing the Nursing Process within the MS Nurse Practice Act, ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses and ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, Accreditation Standards, the CDC Guidelines for Infection Control, and SRHS Departments of Nursing Plan for Provision of Care, Treatment, and Services.
  • Supervises LPNs, Patient Care Assistants, and Unit Technicians.
  • Demonstrates keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making abilities.
  • Demonstrates superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone.
  • Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Possesses emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels.
  • Demonstrates ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Maintains attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in complex situations.
  • Maintains collaborative and respectable working relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations.
  • Possesses superior customer service skills and professional etiquette.
  • Possesses proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.), MS Outlook and Word.
  • Demonstrates appropriate clinical judgment and applies appropriate professional skills to a patient population of all ages.
