The Registered Nurse practices independently in the same or a similar clinical setting, demonstrates awareness of relevant aspects of a situation, and provides routine and complex care. The nurse develops the ability to manage clinical contingencies, work toward long-range goals or plans, and make appropriate assignments and delegate to other care providers. Consistent with the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, the nurse uses the nursing process to assess, diagnose, plan, intervene, and evaluate care for assigned patients. The nurse addresses patients’ and families’ increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs; administers medications and treatments according to protocol while monitoring for side effects and effectiveness; documents patient history, symptoms, medications, and care; and assesses learning needs to provide education and identify issues and resources.
