About The Position

This role involves delivering comprehensive nursing services, including client assessments, vital sign monitoring, client interviews, and medical history documentation. The Registered Nurse is responsible for coordinating nursing processes, auditing medical records for accuracy, and ensuring adherence to intake and medical policies and procedures. This position also serves as a liaison with physicians, psychiatrists, and other medical professionals to ensure appropriate client care.

Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts of nursing.
  • Knowledge of nursing principles in order to plan, evaluate, and provide expertise in the implementation and management of an effective nursing program.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission requirements and standards.
  • Two to four years of progressively responsible nursing experience, with at least one year experience in psychiatric and/or substance abuse field.
  • Current professional licensure as a Registered Nurse as required by the state.
  • High level of problem solving and analytical abilities.
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge of the principles of physical growth and development and psychosocial development.
  • Ability to assess and interpret client data and identify individual needs.
  • Ability to provide health-related care appropriate to the developmental stage and client population.
  • Advanced interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to resolve complex issues, coordinate compliance, and successfully implement change.
  • Computer literacy in order to complete required records, reports, and correspondence.
  • Normal or corrected vision and some color vision.
  • Communication abilities necessary to gather and exchange information with clients and staff in person or by telephone, provide care instructions, and schedule appointments.
  • Proofreading and checking documents for accuracy, and reading reports, on a regular basis.
  • Ability to respond to telephone, pages, and intercoms.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting comprehensive assessments, taking vitals, interviewing prospective clients, and completing client admission forms and medical history.
  • Coordinating nursing processes and auditing medical records for accuracy.
  • Assuring adherence to intake and medical policies and procedures.
  • Acting as a liaison with physicians, psychiatrists, and other medical professionals to assure appropriate care.
  • Assisting the medical supervisor with interviewing and overseeing the training and development of staff.
  • Ensuring compliance with established personnel policies and achievement of objectives for professional growth and development of staff.
  • Documenting and charting client assessment data, medical needs, scheduled appointments, treatment plan, and transcribing physician orders.
  • Auditing medical charts to review comprehensive assessments, ensuring accuracy of diagnosis and appropriateness of care.
  • Ensuring records meet contractual requirements and comply with all local, state, and federal laws.
  • Identifying and resolving discrepancies in medical records.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of records in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Assisting medical consultants by setting up rooms and supplies for scheduled procedures, explaining procedures to clients, passing instruments and supplies, and accepting and labeling specimens.
  • Reporting client observations, evaluations of medical problems, and potential barriers to achieving functional state of health to support recovery.
  • Serving as a professional resource to other nursing staff in evaluating complex cases and devising appropriate treatment responses.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to medical services.
  • Interpreting and enforcing CSCD’s overall objectives, as well as funding agencies policies and procedures.
  • Assisting in conducting initial health screenings and assessment of clients’ condition, and contributing information to aid in planning and evaluating care.
  • Responsible for client medical case management, including determining referral sources, scheduling appointments, coordinating transportation, conducting follow-up, evaluating client response to treatments, instructing clients in self-care, and completing discharge plan summaries.
  • Performing triage of clients presenting symptoms, and performing both complex and routine treatments as prescribed by physician or as warranted by assessed condition, in accordance with established protocols.
  • Referring more complex injuries or illnesses to appropriate health care professionals.
  • Administering or supervising client self-administration of medications as prescribed by physician.
  • Monitoring clients for reactions, side effects, or contraindications, and conferring with physician or pharmacist on medications.
  • Contacting pharmacy to order prescribed medications.
  • Dispensing nonprescription medications as necessary and appropriate.
  • Conducting educational classes and seminars for clients and staff concerning health, treatment of medical issues related to substance abuse, sexually transmitted diseases, infection control, and so forth.
  • Completing required documentation on class participation, progress, and attendance.
  • Conducting annual tuberculosis testing, and maintaining related records.
  • Maintaining and enhancing knowledge, expertise, and nursing skills through appropriate educational and organizational activities.
  • Participating in performance improvement activities as appropriate.
