Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring full-time Registered Nurses for its 24-bed Vascular Stepdown Intermediate Care Unit (9K), which specializes in vascular surgery, telemetry, and renal/pancreas transplant care. The unit is part of the Surgical Specialty Team and cares for a diverse patient population, including people undergoing aortic aneurysm repair, carotid endarterectomy, femoral bypass surgeries, and amputations. It also supports the renal/pancreas transplant program in partnership with the outpatient transplant center. All beds are monitored, and the nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4. The role is open to new graduates and experienced nurses. New graduates take part in an 11-week Transition to Practice program, which serves as the beginning of a comprehensive six-month residency. Nurses receive specialized training and support for pursuing PCCN certification. Shifts are available days or nights, with 36 hours per week, every other weekend, and a required holiday rotation. The Registered Nurse provides competent nursing care using the nursing process. The role encompasses standards of practice—including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation—and standards of professional performance, including ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice, quality, resource utilization, and environmental health. The RN applies clinical knowledge and skills appropriate to the clinical area.
