About The Position

PrimeCare Medical, Inc. is hiring Registered Nurses to provide comprehensive nursing care in the medical department at the Garrett County Detention Center in Oakland, Maryland. Nurses work under the supervision of the Nurse Supervisor, ADON, DON, and HSA, as well as according to protocols established by the Medical Director. A two-week orientation period includes on-the-job training and shadowing nursing staff. The posting lists full-time, part-time, and PRN rotating day and evening schedules. Shifts are 7:00 AM–3:30 PM or 2:30 PM–11:00 PM. The description states that nurses work two 16-hour shifts and one 8-hour shift, including every other weekend.

Requirements

Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland.
Clinical decision-making ability.

Responsibilities

Perform duties under the supervision of a Medical Director or other mid-level practitioner, following established protocols.
Ensure relevant inmate/patient information and unit problems are communicated to appropriate personnel.
Provide health counseling to inmates/patients.
Conduct sick calls and provide provisional diagnosis and treatment for protocol-defined minor illnesses and injuries; refer cases outside the protocol or not responding to treatment to an appropriate PCM physician.
Administer immunizations, tuberculin testing, basic and advanced first aid, basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation, visual acuity and telebinocular examinations, and oxygen when indicated.
Perform 12-lead electrocardiograms and assemble results for provider interpretation.
Retrieve records and file medical information in inmate/patient medical records.
Administer treatment prescribed by verbal or written provider orders.
Administer oral and parenteral medications prescribed by a provider.
At the beginning of every shift, take vital signs, complete an assessment, and document findings on the dispensary card for all inmates/patients housed in the medical and/or mental health unit.
