Registered Nurse - ICU PRN

About The Position
The Registered Nurse provides critical care to ICU patients during highly vulnerable periods. The role calls for decisiveness, preparation, understanding, and high-level critical thinking, while also supporting patients’ families through updates, reassurance, and education. The nurse coordinates care, monitors complex conditions and life-support measures, promotes safety and infection control, and works with the care team to provide continuity and an exceptional patient experience.
Requirements
- Current nursing license to practice in Louisiana, as defined by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing.
- Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
- Current ACLS certification.
- Current PALS certification.
Responsibilities
- Prioritize, coordinate, and delegate patient care.
- Evaluate vital signs and monitor life-support measures, including advanced heart and respiratory technology.
- Apply knowledge of complex patient conditions, including psychosocial needs.
- Maintain and advocate for a safe environment.
- Communicate promptly with patients, families, and appropriate care team members about significant events, changes in condition, and questions or concerns.
- Prevent and treat wounds.
- Monitor and carry out Joint Commission infection-control and environment-of-care requirements.
- Ensure continuity of care, efficient throughput, consistent communication, and an exceptional patient experience.
- Collaborate and consult with the nursing supervisor to identify and meet patient-care needs, including when assignments or tasks cannot be completed promptly, effectively, or safely.
- Initiate patient and family education using appropriate resources and continuum-of-care services.
- Assist other team members without being asked.
