About The Position

San Marcos Treatment Center is a 212-bed psychiatric residential treatment facility located between Austin and San Antonio, Texas. It spans 65 acres and provides 24-hour psychiatric care to girls and boys ages 6 to 17. The facility offers customized therapeutic approaches and intensive behavioral programs designed to help young patients moderate their behavior, manage emotions, and improve social functioning. The Registered Nurse (RN) position is responsible for providing physical assessments of patients, implementing treatment plans, evaluating responses to treatment, maintaining complete documentation, administering medications, and providing health care education to patients and families. The RN also serves as the shift supervisor for Mental Health Techs and LVN staff, ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment. Direct patient care and management of children, adolescent, and young adult patients are key aspects of the role, along with ensuring safety, supervision, and crisis management. The position involves assessment and medical management of patients and assisting in the management of a therapeutic milieu.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
  • One year psychiatric / neuropsychiatric experience with adolescents and / or young adults in a long term hospital or residential setting preferred.
  • Current Texas professional Nurse License.
  • Current driver license.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient and employee information.
  • Demonstrates effective organization.
  • Develops and implements patient care services within discipline.
  • Must consistently exhibit mental ability to understand and perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Ability to initiate and implement all phases of the nursing process.
  • Ability to provide safe nursing care.
  • Understanding patient rights.
  • Basic supervisory skills.
