About The Position

Join Baylor Scott and White Medical Center - Grapevine as a Registered Nurse and be part of something better! Our Oncology unit is a fast-paced environment that includes high acuity patients. We foster an environment that supports learning, mentoring, and building for every team member. The patient population includes Med/Surg/Tele, PCU, Oncology, Chemo, Postop surgery (breast, bladder, lung, colon, and crani), Cardiac drips, and Palliative Care (end of life and hospice support). The unit has 20 beds with patient ratios of 1:4 for Chemo and 1:5 for Med/Tele. Department specifics include an Active Unit Based Council, a Pharmacist and Social Worker on the unit during the day to partner with nurses in patient care, and a Multidisciplinary Team that works together. Chemotherapy training is required within the first 90 days. We celebrate together in an environment that encourages excellence. The shift is Full Time Nights, 7pm-7am, with a requirement of 4 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling period. Experience requirements include 2 years of Med/Surg experience, with PCU experience preferred.

Requirements

  • Grad of an Accredited Program
  • Specialized field of study should be nursing.
  • RN license.
  • Must have BLS certification or get it within 30 days of starting in this role.
  • 2 years of Med/Surg experience
  • Proficiency in medical terms, focusing on health, disease prevention, management, common meds, and their side effects.
  • Respect for medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights.
  • Exceptional communication skills, allowing for clear expression of thoughts both verbally and in writing.
  • Positive social skills to facilitate interactions with a diverse range of parties.
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities, driving effective critical thinking.
  • Basic computer skills, encompassing areas such as Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.

Nice To Haves

  • PCU experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Oversee patient care using a professional practice model.
  • Conduct patient assessment, recognizing health issues.
  • Create care plans and assess patient responses.
  • Secure patient travel.
  • Understand patient needs in healthcare.
  • Help patients and prevent issues.
  • Follow the Texas Nursing Practice Act and delegate tasks based on condition and team competencies.
  • Conduct detailed clinical assessments and prioritize patient and family needs.
  • Create, implement, and evaluate care plans, adjusting plans to reach desired outcomes.
  • Build relationships, manage discomfort, and stay professional in therapeutic connections with patients and families.
  • Create care plans reflecting values to aid in resolving issues.
  • Educate patients, families, nurses, and community members, empowering them with knowledge for better healthcare choices.
  • Assess and document learning needs regularly.
  • Work with colleagues and community to create a care plan.
  • Delegate tasks carefully and follow up promptly.
  • Use different strategies for problem-solving with patients, families, and staff.
  • Recognize limitations and prioritize safety, effectiveness, and efficiency in patient care planning and delivery.
  • Achieve goals through teamwork, recognize contributions, and commit to growth.
  • Contribute to peers' development and show community service commitment.
