About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) Med Surg Nights position is a critical role focused on delivering high-quality nursing care to adult patients in a medical-surgical unit during night shifts. The primary goal is to ensure patient safety, comfort, and recovery by performing comprehensive assessments, administering medications, and coordinating care with interdisciplinary teams. This role requires vigilance and adaptability to manage a diverse patient population with varying acuity levels, responding promptly to changes in patient conditions. The RN will also play a key role in educating patients and their families about treatment plans and post-discharge care. Ultimately, this position contributes to improved patient outcomes and supports the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the healthcare facility during overnight hours.

Requirements

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the United States.
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program (Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Ability to work night shifts and adapt to a fast-paced clinical environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of one year experience in a medical-surgical nursing setting preferred.
  • Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems, preferably Epic or Cerner.
  • Strong background in patient education and discharge planning.
  • Demonstrated leadership or preceptorship experience.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough patient assessments and monitor vital signs to identify any changes in condition.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Document all nursing care activities accurately and timely in the electronic health record system.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatments, and discharge instructions.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies and provide appropriate interventions during the night shift.
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment in compliance with hospital policies and infection control standards.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education to enhance clinical skills.
