Registered Nurse (RN) Medical Surgical - PRN Days
About The Position
The Registered Nurse (RN) Medical Surgical provides care to patients on a fast-paced, high-turnover medical-surgical unit that cares for post-surgical, telemetry, and observation patients. The nurse uses the Nursing Process to assess patients, plan and deliver care, intervene as appropriate, and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions. The role incorporates age-specific safety and infection-control measures, responds to patients’ and significant others’ information needs, and maintains continuity of care between shifts and hospitals and during out-of-hospital transfers. This is a PRN day-shift position at Texas Health Frisco, with varied hours as needed and weekend and holiday requirements. The unit has an established Unit Based Council.
Requirements
- Nursing diploma or associate’s degree in nursing required.
- At least 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse required.
- Registered Nurse (RN) license required upon hire.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required before providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly.
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training required within 90 days and maintained annually.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required for charge nurses within 90 days.
- Essential Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required within 90 days if floating to Mother Baby.
Responsibilities
- Deliver care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process.
- Assess patients.

- Initiate action to meet patients’ and significant others’ needs for information.
- Maintain continuity of patient care across shifts and hospitals and while expediting out-of-hospital transfers.
