About The Position

Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Registered Nurse to join their team in Jupiter, FL. This position is crucial for supporting daily clinic operations, including front desk responsibilities, patient triage and treatment, medication administration, and public health initiatives like immunization programs and disease tracking. The role involves maintaining patient confidentiality, operating scanning equipment, documenting patient information, and performing treatments and procedures as ordered by healthcare providers. The nurse will also triage patients via phone and in-person, assist with basic first aid during emergencies, and support university-wide COVID-19 tracking efforts. Adherence to all scripts, policies, and procedures from FAU Student Health Services (SHS) is required, along with compliance with university training on confidential information and employee health requirements. The position also contributes to fostering a positive work environment and participates in assessment, accreditation, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance. Responsibilities include maintaining supply levels, equipment maintenance, inventory of medications, and assisting with follow-up on labs and patient communication. The role also supports flu clinics, COVID-19 testing and vaccination, and outreach efforts.

Requirements

  • An Associate in Arts degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Two years of appropriate experience.
  • Licensed as a registered nurse in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statues, or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Section 210, Florida Administrative Code.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Good organizational and time management skills and ability to set priorities.
  • Ability to elicit, interpret and perform complete histories and physicals.
  • Knowledge of QA/TQI processes.
  • Ability to communicate both professionally and efficiently in verbal and written communication.
  • Knowledge of nursing principles, practices and techniques.
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology and microbiology.
  • Knowledge of accreditation processes.
  • Ability to diagnose and treat health problems.
  • Ability to perform and experienced in well women exams, Paps, vaginitis, birth control management, STI’s, and breast complaints.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with all aspects of medical clinic front desk using a medical management software system, including greeting patients, checking appointments, verifying eligibility and insurance, and completing check-in/check-out procedures.
  • Verify that confidential documents are updated in EHR and maintain the confidentiality of medical records and patients'/students' personal health information.
  • Answer in-person and telephone inquiries, and collect and review documents to determine compliance.
  • Operate scanning equipment to process immunization documents and file documents as necessary.
  • Screen and evaluate symptoms of students/patients during office visits, providing care and treatment for minor illnesses and injuries with independent judgment.
  • Document all patient findings and nursing actions in the student's chart and other records.
  • Perform treatments and procedures ordered by physicians and advanced registered nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
  • Administer medications following guidelines and as requested by providers.
  • Triage sick patients via phone and walk-in visits, independently screening and evaluating symptoms to determine the next step in their care.
  • Assist in providing basic first aid and initial triage services during emergency situations, including on-campus mass-casualty incidents.
  • Support university-wide case and contact tracking efforts for COVID-19, including symptom screening, referral for testing, providing quarantine/isolation instructions, and medical clearances.
  • Follow all scripts, policies, and procedures provided by FAU Student Health Services (SHS) and comply with university training regarding confidential information.
  • Participate in nurse visits, including immunizations and lab draws per standing order policy within the scope of RN license.
  • Comply with federal, state, and university regulations and statutes, as well as internal policies and procedures, and SHS employee health requirements.
  • Foster and maintain a collaborative, engaging, and positive work environment.
  • Participate in assessment, accreditation, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance.
  • Assist with maintaining supply levels in clinics and with the maintenance of equipment in sterile and operative condition.
  • Check emergency equipment and supplies as assigned.
  • Assist in inventory of medications and PAR levels.
  • Assist MD/NP/PA with appropriate follow-up, including specific labs, communicating with lab vendors, and calling patients.
  • Assist with flu clinics, COVID-19 testing and vaccination, and outreach efforts.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned by Nurse Supervisor or Chief Medical Officer.
