About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction (DAC) is seeking dedicated professionals to join their growing team across multiple classifications and locations. DAC is one of the largest state agencies with over 14,000 employees, responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property, and for the care, custody, and supervision of adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff, as well as probation/parole officers. The Division of Comprehensive Health Services provides evidence-based, compassionate medical care to all offenders in custody, aiming to ensure full-spectrum medical care from entry to release. The team includes physicians, nurses, behavioral health services, dental services, psychiatric services, pharmacy services, and licensed healthcare administration services, working together to provide emergent, acute, routine, and chronic health care, as well as preventive medicine. They also coordinate with external specialists to ensure comprehensive health and well-being for a safe transition from prison, improving public health, and decreasing recidivism.

Requirements

  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina.

Nice To Haves

  • If possessing a single state RN license from a state other than North Carolina, MUST apply and receive at a minimum a "Temporary License" to practice in NC prior to hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver professional nursing care in compliance with medical protocols, policies, and NC Board of Nursing scope of practice.
  • Conduct sick calls and assessments.
  • Assist physicians, carry out orders, and plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care.
  • Respond to medical emergencies.
  • Monitor communicable diseases.
  • Counsel patients on compliance with diet, medications, and treatment.
  • Manage inquiries and schedule appointments.
  • Order medications and supplies.
  • Provide oversight and guidance to LPN and CNA I/II staff as designated by management.
