About The Position

Riverwoods Behavioral Health is seeking Registered Nurses to provide care to patients. The RN team supports patients and colleagues while focusing on quality outcomes and care. This is a full-time night-shift position, scheduled 6:45 p.m. to 7:15 a.m., with three 12-hour shifts per week and rotating weekends and holidays. A $3,000 sign-on bonus is offered for full-time schedules.

The Registered Nurse assesses patients’ physical and behavioral health needs, develops and implements nursing care plans, provides and coordinates nursing care, maintains medical records, and educates patients and families. The RN works within applicable nursing practice standards and facility policies, monitors and documents patient status, communicates significant changes to physicians, administers and documents medications, and supports admission and discharge processes. The role also involves maintaining therapeutic rapport and professional communication with patients, visitors, coworkers, and others involved in treatment.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license as required by the state of employment, or eligibility to practice nursing in accordance with state requirements.
• Two years of nursing experience.
• CPR certification and de-escalation and restraint certification; training is available upon hire and offered by the facility.

Nice To Haves

• Previous psychiatric, mental, behavioral, or substance abuse nursing experience is a plus.
• First aid may be required depending on state or facility requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients’ physical and behavioral health needs and provide and coordinate care.
• Develop and implement nursing care plans tailored to assessed needs.
• Maintain medical records and educate patients and families about physical and behavioral health conditions.
• Provide nursing care within the state Nurse Practice Act, applicable regulations, and facility and corporate policies and procedures.
• Ensure verbal physicians’ orders are legible and transcribed according to policy and procedure.
• Assess patients’ status on an ongoing basis and gather and document pertinent information.
• Notify physicians about significant changes in status, including detox difficulties, medical emergencies, medication response changes, and related challenges.
• Complete initial nursing treatment plans upon admission and ensure plans address assessed needs.
• Use universal precautions when providing direct patient care.
• Administer medications accurately according to orders.
• Document controlled-substance medication counts on required documents.
• Complete admission and discharge processing efficiently and accurately as directed.
• Maintain therapeutic rapport, professional boundaries, respect for personal space, direct attention, and rational detachment with patients.
• Provide direction or coordinate unit activities as directed.
• Communicate therapeutically and professionally with patients, visitors, coworkers, and others involved in inpatient treatment.
