About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) coordinates nursing care, including direct patient care, patient and family education, and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across settings and throughout the continuum of care to meet patient and family needs. Within the Mayo Nursing Care Model, the RN is accountable for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of care for assigned patients, using the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice as a basis for practice. The RN provides leadership through precepting, informal leadership, and quality improvement efforts; delegates care based on skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and available resources; and uses strong communication, mentoring, and teaching skills. The role may also participate in committees or projects. Newly graduated RNs with less than 12 months of practice experience who are hired into a scheduled FTE RN position are automatically enrolled in the Nurse Residency Program. All nurses new to Mayo Clinic receive an extensive orientation, regardless of experience. The role is eligible for TN sponsorship, which requires state licensure and completion of VisaScreen or an equivalent certification.
