About The Position

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia is seeking a Registered Nurse for our Vascular Stepdown/Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) - 9K. This unit is a 24-bed stepdown intermediate care unit that specializes in vascular surgery, telemetry, and renal/pancreas transplant patients. It is part of the Surgical Specialty Team at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital (SNGH). The unit cares for patients undergoing vascular surgeries such as aortic aneurysm repair, carotid endarterectomy, femoral bypass surgeries, and amputations. All beds are monitored, and the unit provides an environment conducive to extensive learning and skill development, exposing nurses to a variety of patients. The nurse to patient ratio is 1:4. New graduate RNs are welcome and will participate in an 11-week Transition to Practice program, followed by a comprehensive 6-month residency program. Experienced nurses moving into this specialty are also encouraged to apply.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required)
  • Registered nursing License (Required)
  • Students in the process of obtaining a Registered Nursing License.
  • BLS required within 90 days of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN or MSN (Preferred)
  • Students in the process of completing an accredited nursing program.
  • Nurses on 9 Kaufman are specially trained and can sit for the PCCN certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the nursing process.
  • Utilize the standards of practice including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation.
  • Adhere to the standards of professional performance including ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice/nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health.
  • Provide care to vascular surgery, telemetry, and renal/pancreas transplant patients.
  • Care for patients undergoing vascular surgeries including aortic aneurysm repair, carotid endarterectomy, femoral bypass surgeries, and amputations.
  • Provide care to patients with telemetry needs.
  • Participate in the care of patients as an extension of the renal/pancreas transplant team.
