About The Position

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia is seeking a Registered Nurse for our Vascular Stepdown/Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU). This unit, 9 Kaufman, is a 24-bed stepdown intermediate care unit that specializes in vascular surgery, telemetry, and renal/pancreas transplant patients. It is part of the Surgical Specialty Team at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital (SNGH). The unit cares for patients undergoing vascular surgeries such as aortic aneurysm repair, carotid endarterectomy, femoral bypass surgeries, and amputations. It also serves as an extension of the renal/pancreas transplant team. All beds on 9 Kaufman are monitored beds, and the unit cares for a variety of patients with telemetry needs, providing an environment conducive to extensive learning and skill development. The nurse to patient ratio on 9 Kaufman is 1:4. New graduate RNs are welcome and will participate in an 11-week Transition to Practice program, which is the start of a comprehensive 6-month residency program.

Requirements

  • Registered nursing License (Required)
  • Students in the process of obtaining a Registered Nursing License.
  • BLS required within 90 days of hire
  • Education Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required)

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN or MSN (Preferred)
  • Students in the process of completing an accredited nursing program.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the nursing process.
  • Utilize the standards of practice including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and coordination of care (teaching and health promotion and evaluation).
  • Adhere to the standards of professional performance including ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice/nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health.
  • Possess clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
  • Provide care to patients with vascular surgery needs, telemetry needs, and renal/pancreas transplant patients.
  • Sit for the PCCN certification (with assistance to obtain).
