About The Position

Sentara is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) at Sentara Norfolk General's Neuro Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) in Norfolk, Virginia. A sign-on bonus of up to $15,000 is offered for qualified candidates, and relocation packages are available. This is a full-time, permanent position with a Weekend Nights shift (7p-7a) on either Friday/Saturday/Sunday or Saturday/Sunday/Monday. The Neuro IMCU is a blended unit that provides highly skilled care to neuroscience patients, including those with back and neck post-surgical conditions, epilepsy patients, all neurosurgeries (brain, pituitary, etc.), and stroke patients (surgical and non-surgical). The unit also houses one of the few Epilepsy Monitoring Units (EMU) in the area. The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice and professional performance encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas. All Direct Care RN's are required to have BLS within 90 days of hire.

Requirements

  • RN Degree REQUIRED
  • Virginia RN License REQUIRED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required within 90-days of hire

  • Prior RN experience PREFERRED

Responsibilities

  • Perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process.
  • Implement the standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation).
  • Adhere to the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health).
  • Utilize clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
  • Provide care to neuroscience patients including back and neck post-surgical patients, epilepsy patients, all neurosurgeries (brain, pituitary, etc.), and stroke patients (surgical and non-surgical).
