Registered Nurse - Urgent Care
About The Position
The City of Marion is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Urgent Care facility. This role involves providing direct and indirect nursing care, contributing to patient assessments, determining priorities, identifying nursing measures, and evaluating outcomes. The position requires independent judgment, flexibility, organization skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a healthcare setting. The VA Northern Indiana Health Care System (NIHCS), formed in 1995, aims to provide coordinated, compassionate, and comprehensive quality primary care, mental health services, and extended care to veterans. The Marion Campus offers psychiatry services, nursing home care, and extended care services, with primary care clinics available at both campuses and Community Based Outpatient Clinics. Recent renovations ensure a state-of-the-art healthcare environment.
Requirements
- Current license in at least one state, territory, or commonwealth in the U.S. or the District of Columbia.
- Current certification in CPR/BLS and ACLS by an American Health Association Vendor.
- Minimum of one year of direct patient care experience within the Urgent Care specialty assigned.
- Immunizations must be up to date, to include COVID Vaccine (Boosters required, exception: medical/religious exemption accepted).

Responsibilities
- Provide direct and indirect nursing care.
- Contribute to patient assessment, determine priorities, identify nursing measures, and evaluate outcomes.
- Obtain patient history and pertinent family history.
- Assess patients and plan appropriate nursing care.
- Document plan of care and care given in patient's medical record.
- Verify transcription of physician's orders; no verbal orders are to be accepted.
- Carry out prescribed physician's orders and document in inpatient medical records.
- Communicate pertinent patient data to charge nurse and/or physician as appropriate.
- Re-assess patient's condition and revise plans of care based on identified nursing problems.
- Administer medications and Intravenous (IV) therapies.
- Possess knowledge of actions and usual dosages of most commonly used emergency drugs and their location on the crash cart.
- Assess and document patient response to medication administered.
- Interpret cardiac rhythms and their implications.
- Reorganize and initiate appropriate measures in emergencies/therapies and surgical/diagnostic procedures.
- Instruct patient/family regarding prescribed medications/therapies and surgical/diagnostic procedures.
- Assess patient/family knowledge level, implement plan of instructions, and record patient/family demonstrated level of understanding.
- Operate defibrillator, EKG machines, cardiac monitor, and other emergency technical equipment.
- Participate in discharge planning, as appropriate.
- Initiate life-saving measures in the absence of physicians.
