About The Position

This is a full-time, nights position for a Registered Nurse in the Surgical Trauma/Burn Intensive Care Unit. The unit is a 20-bed Surgical Trauma/Burn Intensive Care Unit within a Level I Trauma Center and MAGNET facility. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2. The unit cares for Trauma Surgical, Renal Transplant, Burn, and MSOF patients, and is equipped for CRRT and vent patients. The department is a designated Donor transfer center and cares for ICU Level Burn injuries. The department prides itself on high-performing staff with excellent critical thinking skills, self-scheduling for work/life balance, and opportunities for educational and career growth. There is a robust Unit Based Council (UBC) and an engaged leadership team in this high acuity, high volume department.

Requirements

Nursing Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing required
CLIAFE – Must comply with CLIA regulations regarding foreign education equivalency required
Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire
BCLS – prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly
ACLS – within 90 days of hire required
CPI – Crisis Prevention Intervention Training – within 90 days of hire
1-year experience as a registered nurse or completion of an RN residency program required
In addition to the required qualifications, a successful RN will demonstrate a high degree of confidentiality, positive interpersonal skills, and ability to function in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

BSN preferred
TNCC or ATCN – within 12 months of hire preferred
Current ICU/PCU experience preferred

Responsibilities

Delivers care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process: assesses the patient, plans the care of the patient, intervenes as appropriate, evaluates the effectiveness of interventions.
Incorporates age specific safety/infection control measures into patient care.
Initiates action to meet patient and/or significant others need for information.
Maintains continuity of patient care inter-shift, inter-hospital, and while expediting out of hospital transfers.
Delivery of high quality of patient care through nursing education, nursing research and innovations in nursing practice.
