About The Position

Coordinates the daily activities for the surgery facilities. To prioritize, plan and perform professional nursing care, resolve patient care problems and interact with patients, families, surgical staff, other team members and Anesthesia. To resolve problems with patients, physicians, surgical staff, Anesthesia staff and other members of the organization. Main function will be dedicated to the daily running of the patient flow in surgery.

Requirements

  • Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice at a level normally acquired through completion of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Previous Operating Room experience is necessary.
  • Current State Nursing License or having made application for licensure.
  • Ability to organize and direct Operating schedule and staff.
  • Assist in lifting and transporting of patients and providing a safe and comfortable environment for patients and staff.
  • Main function must be dedicated to the daily running of the patient flow board.
  • ACLS, PALS, and BLS required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction to the staff, physicians and patient and/or significant other.
  • Provide explanation to the staff, physicians and patient and/or significant other.
  • Explain nursing intervention.
  • Organize and direct Operating schedule and staff.
  • Assist in lifting and transporting of patients and providing a safe and comfortable environment for patients and staff.
  • Monthly random observation of the following: Two patient identifiers on all patients, proper permits, proper time out’s, once in the room and once prior to incision. All action must stop with the time out. No scalpel passed without a proper time out and proper marking of the surgical site, double check that all fluids on the sterile field are properly marked.
  • Instrument counts are properly performed per policy, and the instrument sheet must be used.
  • Must be willing to give breaks for circulators and scrub techs and assist in any manner to complete the daily schedule.
  • May have to take call if staff is unable to cover the call schedule.
  • May have to work overtime, weekends or holidays as directed.
  • Must be willing to carry either a beeper or cell phone to provide staff with a contact if emergency situations occur after normal business hours.
