About The Position

This is a full-time Supervisory Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) position in the Float Pool - Patient Care Services at Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. The ANM supports the Nurse Manager in overseeing nursing unit or patient-care-area operations, fosters team development, ensures adherence to clinical-practice standards, and serves as a liaison between staff and leadership. The position combines clinical expertise and leadership responsibilities and offers opportunities to develop management skills in preparation for potential Nurse Manager roles. The role is divided equally between administrative and clinical duties: 50% administrative time and 50% clinical time. Administrative work includes supporting unit operations, staff scheduling and leave coordination, supervision, recruitment and selection, performance evaluation, regulatory and accreditation compliance, and performance improvement. Clinical work includes providing and overseeing patient care, serving as a clinical resource and role model, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, responding to patient-condition changes, supporting staff in high-acuity situations, and monitoring care quality and effectiveness. Off-tour coverage is provided as needed to support operations, staffing oversight, leadership continuity, and clinical support across shifts. The ANM supports the Nurse Manager with designated units and may cover for other ANMs. The role is accountable for orientation, training, staff development, and performance evaluation, and exercises specified supervisory authority over assigned employees. The ANM is not ordinarily responsible for independently carrying out Nurse Manager duties.
