About The Position

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking a Registered Nurse for a Step Down unit. This role is full-time, working nights (6:45 PM - 6:45 AM). The Stepdown unit is a 21-bed telemetry unit caring for acutely ill but stable patients requiring closer monitoring. Patients have a variety of cardiac, vascular, and medical diagnoses with specialized needs such as cardiac arrhythmias, bedside cardioversions, titrated medications, oxygenation management, withdrawal, sepsis, stroke, and post-operative care. The environment is challenging, fast-paced, team-oriented, and patient and family-centered, with staff engaged in problem-solving and continuous improvement. Daily interdisciplinary rounds include providers, nurses, case managers, and nurse leaders. Each shift begins with a safety huddle. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 4:1. Orientation is 8-12 weeks based on experience. Key responsibilities include collaborating in care plan establishment, coordinating and implementing care delivery, analyzing patient information to determine nursing diagnoses, and utilizing the nursing process to evaluate patient progress and apply interventions. Medical equipment used includes ECG hardwired, Alaris, PCA, epidural, Etc02, bladder scanner, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen therapy. Drips include cardiac, IV fluids, blood products, sedation, and TPN.

Responsibilities

  • Planning, organizing, and administering patient care within the scope of training and expertise.
