About The Position

This position involves observing and assessing the health status of patients through physical assessment, examination, interviews, and reviewing health history. The Registered Nurse will initiate and administer treatments, medications, and emergency measures based on provider orders and unit protocols. Responsibilities include administering therapeutic measures such as medication, IV fluids, blood transfusions, and oxygen therapy. The role requires meticulous recording of observations, interventions, and patient data. The nurse will independently manage patients undergoing local anesthesia and IV sedation, providing specialized care to meet physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. Operation and monitoring of specialized unit equipment is also a key function. Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams is essential for patient care planning and implementation. The position also involves utilizing Standards of Care for developing and revising nursing care plans, monitoring supplies for sterility, and participating in hospital committees related to patient care. Continuous education, quality assurance, and performance improvement initiatives are expected. Problem-solving and critical thinking are crucial for identifying and resolving issues related to program planning and development. The nurse must be clinically competent, communicate effectively, multitask, and prioritize patient care. This role requires functioning in any assigned nursing unit and successfully cross-training to the Emergency Department (ED), Multi-Service Unit (MSU), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and Inpatient Obstetrics Unit (OB/GYN) within a six-month orientation period. Compliance with Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) standards and training is mandatory.

Requirements

Three (3) year Registered Nurse experience in medical/surgical, acute, and/or critical care setting.
Associate of Science degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program.
Valid and unrestricted Registered Nurse license in any U.S. State or Territory.
Valid, unrestricted insurable driver’s license.
Resume and references are required.
Valid American Heart Association (AHA) certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and maintain certification.
Valid American Heart Association (AHA) certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and maintain certification.
Valid American Heart Association (AHA) certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and maintain certification.
Valid American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and maintain certification.
Valid Emergency Nurse Association (ENA) certification in Trauma Nursing Care Course (TNCC) and maintain certification or valid Air & Surface Transport Nurses Association (ASTNA) certification in Transport Professional Advanced Trauma Course (TPATC) and maintain certification or valid Society of Trauma Nurses (STN) certification in Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) and maintain certification or valid American College of Surgeons (ACS) certification in Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) and maintain certification or valid Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN) certification in Trauma Certified Registered Nurse (TCRN) and maintain certification.
Obtain valid certification in Moderate Sedation within six (6) months from date of hire and maintain certification.
Valid Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nursing (AWHONN) certification in Advanced Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) and maintain certification or valid National Certification Corporation (NCC) certification in Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) and maintain certification.

Responsibilities

Observes and assesses health status of patients by physical assessment and examination, interviewing patient and family members, and reviewing patient’s health history.
Initiates and administers treatments, medications, emergency, and resuscitative measures based on appropriate utilization of providers orders, standing orders and protocols to the unit assigned.
Initiates and administers therapeutic measures as prescribed by the ordering provider such as medication treatments, intravenous fluids, blood transfusion, oxygen therapy, etc.
Records observations, nursing interventions, therapeutic measures, hemodynamic monitoring data, and other data relevant to patients in the unit.
Responsible for independent management of patients undergoing local anesthesia and intravenous (IV) sedation.
Provides specialized knowledge and skills to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of patients undergoing procedures.
Operates and monitors specialized equipment pertinent to the unit.
Collaborates with members of the units and multidisciplinary teams in assessing, planning, and implementing intervention in the management of patient’s health care.
Provides intravenous and respiratory therapy for patients as indicated by circumstances and needs, following protocol.
Utilizes Standards of Care to develop, implement, evaluate, and revise an appropriate problem oriented nursing plan of care for the patient and management of the unit.
Monitors supplies and instruments to assure sterility of materials used furthering Quality Assurance of patient care.
Participates as a member of hospital committees relative to patient care.
Participates in planning and conducting continuing education in nursing care, quality assurance, and performance improvement, and care of instruments and supplies.
Collaborates with team members and other personnel as needed to facilitate methods of resolution and solutions to problems.
Identifies specific issues related to program planning and development and works with the nursing leadership team to determine methods of solution to those problems.
Thinks critically, is clinically competent and communicates effectively while multi-tasking and prioritizing patient care.
Functions in any nursing unit as assigned and appropriate.
Successfully cross-train to Emergency Department (ED), Multi-Service Unit (MSU), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and Inpatient Obstetrics Unit (OB/GYN) (for female candidates) during six (6) months orientation period.
Completes all yearly Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) required training by the indicated due dates.
Assists, promotes, and supports compliance with established CMS standards.
Performs other duties as assigned.
