About The Position

As a team member of the outpatient care team, the Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for coordinating and providing comprehensive (preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative) care of the patient undergoing outpatient eye surgery through the appropriate utilization of assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation and documentation in accordance with established standards, policies and procedures. The RN is accountable to the Director, Clinical Coordinator and Physicians at Bloomington Eye Institute.

Requirements

  • Current State of Illinois license as a Registered Nurse or have letter from Illinois Department of Professional Regulation stating may practice until license is received.
  • CPR certification (ACLS preferred).
  • Must be able to commit to and work effectively in a team environment, taking responsibility to support the team toward achieving positive clinical outcomes.
  • Can perform clinical/technical duties as required.
  • Knowledge of computer system within Bloomington Eye Institute.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Ophthalmology, surgery, and /or ambulatory surgery center experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs or assist other team members with patient care procedures and tasks as needed to achieve positive clinical outcomes.
  • Performs thorough patient assessment by observing and collecting data from patient and other appropriate sources to develop an ongoing plan of care.
  • Plans for the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care of the patient based on assessment findings and procedure to be done.
  • Collaborates with physicians, care team members, and other disciplines appropriate to the care area in providing patient care.
  • Competently performs patient care in accordance with established standards, policies and procedures.
  • Proficient in the use of supplies, equipment and instrumentation at Bloomington Eye Institute.
  • Appropriately delegates tasks to other care team members.
  • Evaluates care given to each patient and revises plan of care as needed.
  • Effectively communicates with other members of the care team.
  • Documents information/data completely on appropriate forms.
  • Works cooperatively with care team members.
  • Effectively and efficiently utilizes resources to minimize cost to patient and surgery center.
  • Is dependable and flexible to ensure adequate staffing at the surgery center.
  • Takes initiative to seek out learning opportunities to increase knowledge and keep current in outpatient eye surgery specialty.
  • Participates in Quality Improvement activities.
  • Validates competencies of other team members.
  • Identifies and initiates other duties as necessary.
  • Participates in special projects as needed.
  • Assists the care team in identifying and resolving clinical/technical/operational problems.
  • Assists in assuring customer concerns are addressed in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Acts as preceptor to new staff learning RN role and validates orientation plan and competencies for staff members.
  • Responsible for and completes assigned annual duties.
  • May be cross-trained and expected to function in multiple areas of the surgery center, including preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative nursing care, surgical scrub/sterile field support, central sterile processing and instrument sterilization, and limited office or front desk coverage as needed to support patient care and operational needs.
