About The Position

Iva Post Acute is seeking dedicated and energetic Registered Nurses (RNs) with a passion for compassionate care and teamwork to join their night shift team. This role offers the opportunity to make a difference every day in a supportive, family-like environment. The primary responsibility is to supervise the day-to-day nursing activities of the facility in accordance with current standards, guidelines, and regulations to ensure the highest degree of quality care.

Requirements

  • Must possess, as a minimum, a Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Must have training in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices.
  • 2 years or more experience preferably in a long-term care facility.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Ability to read technical procedures.
  • Ability to read and comprehend policy and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and employees.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to make independent decisions.
  • Ability to solve practical problems.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
  • Leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel.
  • Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
  • Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served.
  • Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities.
  • Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.
  • Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices.
  • Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition.
  • Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Must maintain all required continuing education/licensing.
  • Must remain in good standing with the State Board of Nursing at all times.
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately.
  • Must function independently, and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
  • Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility.
  • Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, hostile people within the facility.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.

Responsibilities

  • Providing compassionate nursing care to residents.
  • Administering medications and treatments.
  • Supervising CNAs and nursing staff.
  • Communicating with physicians and families.

  • Supervising the day-to-day nursing activities of the facility during the tour of duty.
  • Assisting the Director of Nursing Services in directing nursing activities.
  • Participating in developing and updating policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring reference materials are current.
  • Ensuring nursing service personnel comply with procedures.
  • Making reports and recommendations to the Director.
  • Reviewing department policies and making recommendations for revisions.
  • Assisting in coordinating nursing services with other resident services.
  • Ensuring personnel comply with job descriptions.
  • Participating in the quality assurance program for the nursing service department.
  • Participating in facility surveys.
  • Reviewing and updating resident discharge plans.
  • Assisting in planning the nursing services portion of the resident’s discharge plan.
  • Meeting with nursing staff and support personnel.
  • Admitting, transferring, and discharging residents.
  • Completing accident/incident reports.
  • Interpreting department policies and procedures.
  • Performing administrative duties such as completing medical forms and reports.
  • Attending committee meetings (e.g., Infection Control, Policy Advisory, Quality Assessment).
  • Assisting in preparing reports for committees.
  • Providing information to the Quality Assurance and Assessment Committee.
  • Participating in developing the agenda for Care Plan Committee meetings.
  • Implementing recommendations from committees.
  • Ensuring sufficient licensed nurses and certified nursing assistants are available.
  • Developing work assignments.
  • Delegating administrative authority to Charge Nurses.
  • Ensuring nurse aide trainees are supervised by a licensed nurse.
  • Making daily rounds to ensure personnel are performing work assignments.
  • Monitoring absenteeism.
  • Ensuring personnel follow dress codes and established policies.
  • Reviewing complaints and grievances from personnel.
  • Creating and maintaining a positive and calm environment.
  • Meeting with shift personnel to identify and correct problem areas.
  • Participating in employee performance evaluations.
  • Ensuring disciplinary action is administered fairly.
  • Reporting occupational exposures.
  • Reporting suspected or known incidents of fraud.
  • Ensuring computer workstations are logged off or password protected.
  • Informing personnel of new admissions.
  • Ensuring rooms are ready for new admissions.
  • Greeting and escorting newly admitted residents.
  • Making rounds with physicians.
  • Encouraging physicians to record and sign progress notes and orders.
  • Informing the Director of timely physician visits.
  • Consulting with residents, families, and physicians in planning care.
  • Notifying physicians and next-of-kin of changes in resident condition.
  • Observing and evaluating each resident’s physical and emotional status daily.
  • Ensuring direct nursing care is provided by qualified personnel.
  • Reviewing nurses’ notes for accuracy and completeness.
  • Providing direct nursing care as necessary.
  • Starting IVs and obtaining specimens.
  • Taking TPRs and blood pressures.
  • Authorizing the use of restraints when necessary.
  • Ensuring compliance with medication and supply policies.
  • Monitoring medication passes and treatment schedules.
  • Reviewing medication cards for accuracy.
  • Inspecting treatment areas for cleanliness and safety.
  • Ensuring residents who cannot call for help are checked frequently.
  • Meeting with residents and/or family members as necessary.
  • Assisting in arranging transportation for discharged residents.
  • Informing family members of a resident's death.
  • Calling funeral homes when requested by family.
  • Participating in in-service training classes.
  • Assisting in developing annual facility in-service training programs.
  • Assisting in planning clinical supervision for nurse aide trainees.
  • Attending continuing education programs.
  • Assisting the Safety Officer in developing safety standards.
  • Identifying, evaluating, and classifying tasks with potential exposure to blood/body fluids.
  • Ensuring personnel participate in training for tasks involving potential exposure.
  • Ensuring adequate supply of personal protective equipment.
  • Ensuring personnel follow procedures for use and disposal of PPE.
  • Monitoring personnel for adherence to safety regulations.
  • Ensuring work areas are clean and sanitary.
  • Ensuring resident care rooms and treatment areas are clean, safe, and sanitary.
  • Ensuring personnel follow handwashing and hand hygiene procedures.
  • Ensuring personnel participate in fire safety and disaster preparedness drills.
  • Participating in the infection control program.
  • Ensuring personnel follow infection control procedures.
  • Participating in developing procedures for reporting hazardous conditions.
  • Ensuring personnel use safety equipment when lifting or moving residents.
  • Reporting missing/illegible labels and MSDSs.
  • Recommending equipment and supply needs.
  • Ensuring adequate stock levels of medications and supplies.
  • Assisting in developing a preventive maintenance program.
  • Participating in developing procedures for safe operation of equipment.
  • Ensuring only trained personnel operate equipment.
  • Ensuring equipment is operated safely.
  • Monitoring efficient use of nursing supplies.
  • Ensuring MSDSs are on file for hazardous chemicals.
  • Participating in developing resident assessments.
  • Participating in developing resident care plans.
  • Encouraging resident participation in care plan development.
  • Reviewing resident care plans for appropriateness.
  • Ensuring personnel are aware of and refer to the resident's care plan.
  • Reviewing nurses’ notes to determine if the care plan is being followed.
  • Assisting in planning, scheduling, and revising the MDS.
  • Reviewing resident medical and nursing treatments.
  • Keeping abreast of economic conditions and recommending adjustments.
  • Supervising and managing nursing staff.
  • Assisting in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
