About The Position

This role is for a Registered Nurse (RN) at a BioLife Plasma Donation Center, a subsidiary of Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Ltd. The primary focus is on ensuring the quality and safety of plasma collection, which is used to create life-changing medicines. The position involves determining donor eligibility, managing adverse events, reviewing lab results, and notifying donors of unsuitable test results. The Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) works under the guidance of the Center Manager and the medical direction of the Center Physician, adhering to industry regulations and BioLife's environmental, health, and safety (EHS) standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements.
  • Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP), or Physician Assistant (PA).
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification.
  • Fulfill state requirements for basic IV therapy.
  • Satisfactorily complete the FDA approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
  • Two years in a clinical or hospital setting.

Responsibilities

  • Determine donor eligibility, including managing informed consent, AIDS education, confidential self-exclusion, medical history interviews, and acceptance requirements.
  • Perform physical examinations and blood testing, and review Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE) results.
  • Evaluate and manage donor reactions and medical emergencies according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Follow SOPs for medical emergencies, including standing orders and donor transport to emergency care facilities.
  • Consult with the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for unacceptable findings, medical/technical guidance, and donor safety/eligibility.
  • Support employee Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs.
  • Manage employee incidents and determine the need for further evaluation by occupational health/ER.
  • Act as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations related to pandemic threats.
  • Provide center-level support for environmental, health, and safety (EHS).
