About The Position

The Med-Surg Registered Nurse delivers nursing care to patients with medical and surgical diagnoses. The role uses organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status, implements clinical nursing interventions, and develops and carries out patient care plans to improve outcomes. The nurse helps maintain a safe, therapeutic environment and collaborates with the interdisciplinary care team. The position is in the Med/Surg Telemetry Unit at Fairfield Hospital and is scheduled for 36 hours per week on evenings/nights.

Requirements

• One year of RN experience.
• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.
• Six months of RN experience in an acute care hospital setting preferred.
• BLS Basic Life Support preferred upon hire; it must be obtained from an approved source before direct patient care. ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support is acceptable in lieu of BLS.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient status using organizational and leadership skills.
• Provide care to patients with medical and surgical diagnoses.
• Implement clinical nursing interventions.
• Develop and perform patient care plans to improve patient outcomes.
• Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment.
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team.
• Collect vital signs, administer IV medications, chart, and assess patient condition.
• Evaluate, update, and revise plans of care to support planned and expected outcomes.
• Administer medications safely in accordance with state requirements and Mercy Health policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
