About The Position

This is a Part Time Registered Nurse (RN) position requiring weekend availability and 8-hour shifts. The role involves working as a Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) at a BioLife Plasma Services center, a subsidiary of Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Ltd. The primary focus is on ensuring the safety and eligibility of plasma donors, managing adverse events, reviewing lab results, and notifying donors of unsuitable test results. The Medical Support Specialist operates under the guidance of the Center Manager for operational matters and the Center Physician for medical issues, adhering to industry regulations and BioLife Medical Affairs guidance for environmental, health, and safety (EHS).

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements.
  • Currently licensed or certified as a Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP), or Physician Assistant (PA) in the state where responsibilities will be assigned.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification.
  • Fulfill state requirements for basic IV therapy in the state of licensure.
  • Satisfactorily complete FDA-approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
  • Two years of experience in a clinical or hospital setting.

  • Familiarity with regulations of the plasma collection industry or a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Determine donor eligibility, including managing informed consent, AIDS education, confidential self-exclusion, medical history interviews, acceptance requirements, physical examinations, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
  • Evaluate donor reactions occurring at the facility according to SOPs.
  • Follow SOPs for medical emergencies, including the development of Center Physician's standing orders and coordinating donor transport to emergency care facilities.
  • Consult with the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for unacceptable findings, medical/technical issues, and donor safety/eligibility.
  • Support Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees.
  • Manage employee incidents and determine the need for further evaluation by occupational health/ER, referring to EHS guidance.
  • Act as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS, supporting investigations related to pandemic threats in the local community as directed by EHS or Medical Affairs.
