About The Position

This Registered Nurse (RN) Perioperative Cohort position is located in the Main OR at St. Luke's MAIN OR Milwaukee, WI. It offers a teaching environment focused on surgical nursing in the Operating Room. The RN will be the patient's advocate during a vulnerable time, working closely with surgeons, residents, advanced practice clinicians, anesthesiologists, technologists, and assistants to achieve superior surgical outcomes. The orientation and practice environment are based on the specialty standards and educational programs of the Association of Perioperative Nurses (AORN). The extensive RN orientation includes full training in the circulator role. The 5-month orientation includes a 6-week intensive emergence into periop nursing with didactic education, digital education, lab experiences, simulations, role-playing, and hands-on practice. The Main operating room services include Neuro/ENT, General, and Orthopedics.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current WI RN license.
  • Minimum of one year nursing experience OR consideration for New Grads.
  • RN licensure must be verified prior to start date.
  • Must be available to start Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and different shifts in order to accommodate staffing.
  • Positions need to take call.
  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the team member practices.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide superior surgical outcomes by working closely with surgeons, residents, advanced practice clinicians, anesthesiologists, technologists, and assistants.
  • Provide full training in the circulator role during orientation.
  • Participate in didactic education, digital education, lab experiences with practice skills, simulations, role playing, and hands-on practice during the 5-month orientation.
  • Be available to work weekends, holidays, and different shifts to accommodate staffing needs.
  • Take call.
  • Assist in the evacuation of patients in the event of a fire or other disaster.
  • Respond to patients in a timely manner and access all areas of the unit.
  • Lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when a patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used with at least one other team member when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
