Registered Nurse (RN) Outpatient Oncology Float II for Aurora St. Lukes Medical Center - Administration: Oncology Clinic. This is a full-time position with benefits, working 32 hours per week. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 0830-1700, with Tuesdays off. This role involves floating to all 13 outpatient oncology clinics in Southeastern WI and includes an additional hourly float differential. The RN utilizes the nursing process to provide age-specific and specialty-specific care, assesses educational needs, and provides teaching and counseling to patients and families. The role integrates health promotion, preventive care, and symptom assessment/management according to the treatment plan. It also involves assessing social determinants of health, coordinating care with resources like navigation and social work, and assuming primary responsibility for caseloads in the specialty area. The RN anticipates and recognizes changes in patient status, determines care priorities, provides ongoing assessment of patient response to services, and updates care plans as needed. Communication with physicians and other providers is crucial for confirming and updating the plan of care, with regular status updates provided. The role includes coordinating care specific to the patient's specialty, such as oral chemotherapy plans in oncology. Responsibilities may include administering medications (chemotherapy, biologics, antibiotics, IV medications) in an infusion center setting, managing central venous access devices, and performing blood product transfusions and therapeutic phlebotomy. Telephone consultation, triage, and care coordination are also key functions. Accurate clinical and patient record maintenance is required, adhering to system policies and state/federal guidelines. The RN assists in staff orientation and educational activities, follows published policies and procedures, and takes ownership of professional development in the specialty, aiming to advance knowledge and clinical skills, including pursuing certification. Participation in shared governance activities, journal clubs, and Grand Rounds is expected, with knowledge sharing to improve care quality. The position requires demonstrating knowledge and skills for age-appropriate patient care, understanding growth and development across the lifespan, and assessing/interpreting patient data to meet age-specific needs.
